Festivals in Quang Ninh
Bach Dang Festival
Time: 9th day of the fourth lunar month.
Place: Festival center is at Tran Hung Dao Temple – Vua Ba Shrine and other temples and communal houses in Yen Hung District, Quang Ninh Province:
Objects of worship: Tran Hung Dao.
Characteristics: Bach Dang traditional swimming festival.
Cua Ong Temple Festival
Time: From the 2nd day of the first lunar month to the 30th day of the third lunar month. The main festival day is on the 3rd of the second lunar month.
Place: Cua Ong Ward, Cam Pha Town, Quang Ninh Province.
Objects of worship: Hung Nhuong Vuong Tran Quoc Tang (Royal Highest Dong Hai), Hoang Cau – a local general.
Characteristics: Incense offering Ceremony, procession of ancestral tablet.
Going to the field Festival
Time: The good day of the sixth lunar month.
Place: Yen Hung District, Quang Ninh Province.
Objects of worship: Tien Cong (founding father) and Agriculture genie.
Characteristics: Elders of village go to communal house and shrine to worship Tien Cong (founding father) and Agriculture genie. The neu tree is put in the field before the gate of the communal house, a thu tu (custodian of communal house) transplants rice seedlings around neu tree in the acclaim of villagers.
Long Tien Pagoda Festival
Time: The 24th day of the third lunar month.
Place: Long Tien Pagoda, at the foot of Bai Tho Mountain, Halong City, Quang Ninh Province.
Objects of worship: Tran Hung Dao.
Characteristics: Procession of ancestral tablet of Duc Ong palanquin.
Mother-of-pearl cultivation
Location: The first village specializing in mother-of-pearl sea cultivation of the northeastern region lies in Van Don Island District, 60km away from Halong City.
Characteristics: This trade has flourished over the past 40 years. This facilitates the cultivation of pearls of different ages.
Quan Lan Festival
Time: The festivities are organized yearly on the 18th day of the sixth lunar month, but the celebration lasts from the 10th to the 20th day of month.
Place: Dinh Wharf in Quan Lan Commune, Van Don District, Quang Ninh Province.
Characteristics: The festival is organized to commemorate the victory against the Mongol invaders in 1288, as well as the feats of Tran Khanh Du, a famous Tran General. They also pray for good “harvest” from the sea.
Tien Cong Festival
Time: 7th day of the first lunar month.
Place: Cam La Commune, Ha Nam Island, Yen Hung District, Quang Ninh Province.
Objects of worship: Founding fathers who built dykes, created the populated Ha Nam Island.
Characteristics: The senior men of the village (all older than 70 years old) go to the temple for congratulation ceremony; wrestling show.
Tra Co Festival
Time: 30th day of the fifth lunar month to the 6th day of the sixth lunar month.
Place: Tra Co, Mong Cai Town, Quang Ninh Province.
Objects of worship: Six village’s tutelary god and Nguyen Huu Cau, a peasant leader during Le Dynasty.
Characteristics: Fat pigs contest, vegetarian and meat-feast contest.
Yen Tu Festival
Time:From the 10th day of the first lunar month until the end of the third lunar month.
Place: Yen Tu historical site and beauty spot, Uong Bi Town, Quang Ninh Province.
Objects of worship: Sakyamuni Buddha.
Participators: People from all walks of life.
Characteristics: Pilgrimage in respect of Buddha, going sightseeing.
